What are bushings
in a car?

A wishbone or track control arm suspension bush ensures the connection between your car body and its wheel acting as a pivot point. These rubber bushes decrease the vibrations caused by your car’s suspension system that can appear when you’re driving. To optimize the way bushes work, these parts need to be flexible and sustainable.

Bushes developed by our experts

Our experts’ goal is to improve the MOOG parts as much as they can. Take for instance the part shown in the video.
In order to improve the performance and durability of bush SE-SB-0104, MOOG has increased the number of internal rubber compounds from two to four. This design change has structurally altered the appearance of the bush which also means the rubber mark which indicates the mounting position has been removed. Due to the removal of the rubber mounting mark, extra care should be taken when fitting the new bush.

How to replace car bushes?

For an easy installation of bushing SE-SB-0104, there are the 3 steps to follow:

  1. Indicate an auxiliary mark, this must be 90° to the rubber reinforcement. The rubber reinforcement should always be in the direction of the support after installation (center of the vehicle).
  2. When inserting the bush into the support, the auxiliary mark should be aligned with the marking on the housing. The rubber reinforcement should be pointing towards the direction of the support.
  3. After the mounting of the wishbone bushes the other parts should be installed following the recommended torque values of the vehicle manufacturer.

When to change the bushes?

A car bush system needs surveillance and when symptoms of expiration appear you should be prepared. Here are 4 sings of bad bushes that can help you:

  1. The steering wheel has a different position after cornering
  2. Tyre wear
  3. Excessive road noise and vibration
  4. Looseness when handling the car
